PACIDA focuses on five thematic areas in her programming: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH ), Education, Sustainable Livelihoods development, Peace and Governance and Disaster Risk Reduction. These thematic areas contribute towards realizing PACIDA’s objectives among the communities in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia. All PACIDA programs are designed in the framework of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) where community involvement and participation takes centre-stage in all program initiation, design, implementation and management. The organization strives to strengthen local capacities and initiatives in all her undertakings.
PACIDA’s regional and cross-border approach to community development is motivated by the close ties among communities living across international borders and their interdependence especially during extreme situations. The cross-border approach is intended to build synergy and enhance communities’ engagement and resilience to recurrent disaster threats and risks resulting from climate variability.
